Missouri’s Civil War Blog is a website dedicated to the understanding, education, and preservation of the history of the Civil War in Missouri.
In the annals of Civil War history, Missouri’s war has tended to be glossed over. Usually, the history books may cover the early actions in the state in the summer and early fall of 1861, as well as the guerrilla war on Missouri’s western border. Rarely, are there mentions of Missouri’s strategic impact on the war efforts of both sides, the political environment in the state, the impact of Federal occupation, Confederate efforts to reclaim Missouri, and even St. Louis’ immense contributions to the Union war effort. We hope this website will ignite interest by scholars and students to study this essential and overlooked side of the American Civil War.
